Employment Protection Australia Pty Ltd first aid kit scam (Bradley Norrish)

Brad Norrish has started another new business called “Employment Protection Australia Pty Ltd” (108 083 530) only registered with ASIC on February 20, 2004.

Brad Norrish’s private company “Employment Protection Australia Pty Ltd” (www.employmentprotection.com.au) should not be confused with the official Western Australian government “Department of Consumer and Employment Protection” (www.docep.wa.gov.au) [*].

Employment Protection Australia Pty Ltd apparently sent out an official looking letter to Western Australian businesses last week:

Employment Protection Australia Pty Ltd notice Employment Protection Australia Pty Ltd envelope

The text of the letter is below:

” …

Employment Protection Australia

To The Manager,

It is now REQUIRED by law that all employers and workplaces have an Occupational Safety and Health compliant first aid supply.

Under section 3.12(2) of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations Act 1996 as amended all workplace environments must have equipped on their premises the comprehensive first aid materials that comply with the legislation. These must be made accessible to all staff members at all times. Failure to comply may lead to fines of up to $25,000.

We strongly advise you purchase the comprehensive “Place of Employment First Aid Supply”. It has been specially designed for the workplace in accordance with the First Aid Facilities and Services Code of Practise pursuant to section 57 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. It contains the supplies required in case of emergency or accident including easy to follow instruction and method cards and first aid manual explaining the procedures that should be taken in case of emergency.

In addition to infringement of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1996 as amended, failure to have the adequate supplies could result in a finding of negligence in the event of an accident or emergency.

The possible consequences on insurance policies held and/or potential compensation claims against you or your organisation should also be considered.

Receive your Place of Employment First Aid Supply by returning the order section below with payment of $259 GST inclusive today. This ensures that you comply with the government legislation and protect yourself, your employees and visitors to your premises.

A tax invoice will be provided by return mail. For any queries please call 1800 268 278.

The “First Aid Facilities and Services Code of Practise (sic)” which the letter refers to is available here:

Code of Practice: First Aid, Workplace Amenities and P.P.E
http://www.safetyline.wa.gov.au/pagebin/codewswa0229.htm

The relevant sections of the code are:

” …

1.11 First aid boxes (page 10)

A first aid box may be of any size, shape or type providing it is large enough to contain all the items required for a particular workplace. It should also be able to protect the contents from dust, moisture and contamination. The first aid box should be kept securely closed to ensure its contents are kept clean and dry. The first aid box should contain basic requirements and additional items appropriate to the workplace. A guide to determining the contents of a first aid box is at Appendix 3.

APPENDIX 3 FIRST AID BOXES (page 66)

This list should be used as a guide for determining the contents and quantities for a basic first aid box. Individual items and quantities may vary according to identified hazards.

I am not aware of any information which suggests that Employment Protection Australia Pty Ltd does not provide a bona fide first aid product.

[*] The Department of Consumer and Employment Protection ranked Domain Names Australia (Chesley Rafferty) as one of the top scams for 2003 (http://www.docep.wa.gov.au/scam.asp?id=cp/wascamnet/2003/dec/toplist.htm#4).

Filed under: Chesley Rafferty, Domain Names Australia — Josh @ 6:21 pm

Here are Domain Names Australia Pty Ltd’s (Chesley Rafferty) latest notices. As per usual they both look like a standard utility bill with a due date of March 12, 2004.

“We are writing regarding the registration of the new domain name www.XXXX.net.au for the internet … ”

Domain Names Australia Pty Ltd notice front

“The .com version of .com.au domain is currently unregistered … ”

They both come in an envelope like this:

Domain Names Australia Pty Ltd reply paid envelope

and have a payment slip like this:

which are also both common practice for utility bills.

INTRAS NetSecurity unsolicited letters (Bradley Norrish)

Brad Norrish has started a new business called “INTRAS (Australia) Pty Ltd” (ACN 107 068 931).

INTRAS NetSecurity (http://www.netsecurity.com.au/) is sending out unsolicited letters and CD-ROMs by snail mail.

The CD-ROM claims to have virus/spyware/etc scanning and prevention software. I have not installed the
contents of the CD-ROM, so I have no idea whether these statements are correct or not.

Has anyone else received any communication from INTRAS NetSecurity? If so have you installed their
software and worked out what it does? Did you read and understand the End User Licence Agreement (EULA)?
What is the licence fee for the software?

I find it quite ironic that another one of Brad Norrish’s businesses (Internet Registrations WorldWide /
SearchEx) seems to be in the spyware provision business (see previous post).

NetSecurity’s pricing page (http://registration.netsecurity.com.au/v1/pricing.php) says this:

” …

1. You enter into this agreement with us, Intras (Australia) Pty Ltd. If you are entering this agreement
on behalf of some other person, you warrant that you have the authority to enter into this agreement on
behalf of that person, and you agree to be liable for all their acts and omissions.

2. You warrant that you are 18 years of age or over.

3. You are granted a 30 days trial without charge. If the software is not uninstalled from all computers
before the 30 day mark then you are liable to pay the license fees for the software.

4. License fees are $3630 upfront plus $252 per month inc GST for a minimum of 48 months – a minimum
commitment of $15762 inc GST.

5. This contract is made in the state of Western Australia and bound by the laws of the state of Western
Australia.

… “

Here’s what the snail mail letter says:

“Dear Internet/Computer Users,

Please find enclosed a computer CD Rom of Intras NetSecurity.

Intras NetSecurity is designed to help you prevent worms, viruses, security flaws, backdoor entry vulernabilities, spyware, adware, and/or Trojans to increase the level of protection and security on your computer(s).

I.T. security issues cost the global economy billions of dollars in direct costs and lost productivity every year. Millions of credit cards and bank details are stolen each year by Trojan horse programs.

Every other week there is a new malicious worm being created by hackers. Melissa, SoBig, and the recent MyDoom are just a few examples of worms that have crippled millions of machines around the world.

Intras NetSecurity can assist you in detecting these infections and ensure the user remains immune to the ever evolving computer risks. We invite you to download a trial licence of Intras NetSecurity without charge. There are 25 serial codes provided on the second page of this letter which can be used to activate Intras NetSecurity within your organisation for up to 25 users. Intras NetSecurity will allow you to scan your computers for an immediate report on the security issues detected.

There is absolutely no charge for the trial use. We hope you use Intras NetSecurity and benefit from it. To install the trial simply insert the CD Rom into the CD Rom drive and follow the prompts.

Regards

Intras (Australia) Pty Ltd”

The NetSecurity End License Users Agreement is here: http://www.netsecurity.com.au/terms.html

7 LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

7.4 In no event shall Intras (Australia) Pty Ltd’s total liability to you for all damages exceed $AU50.

How to contact iRegistrations (Bradley Norrish)

from: http://archive.humbug.org.au/aussie-isp/2004-02/msg00121.html

iRegistrations.com / iRegistrations.net are a Perth based outfit which is probably operated by Brad Norrish and others.

iRegistrations’ business model is to sign people up for “cheap” $US5.95 domain names (com/net/org/info/biz) and then hit them with web hosting fees in the following months (see “2.6 Additional Services” on this page:
https://www.iregistrations.com/terms.shtml).

Recently they have been spamming Australians, possibly in breach of the new Spam Act (http://dotau.org/archive/2004-01/0017.html).

The web page below has links to other people who have had problems with
iRegistrations.

Samantha,

Here are some people who might be able to assist you with your enquiry:

Peter Jacobs info@iregistrations.com (08) 9225 2100 or (08) 9225 7278
Bradley Norrish brad@brad.com.au (08) 9221 0309 or (08) 9443 6822

If you can’t get onto Peter or Brad then these guys should be able to put
you in contact with iRegistrations staff:

Chesley Rafferty chesleyau@yahoo.com.au (08) 9471 7410 or 0408 957 715
Craig Oehlers craig@proweb.net.au (08) 9454 6768 or 0407 744 175
Diverse Internet admin@di.com.au (08) 9221 2649
IMCO info@imco.com (08) 9221 4055

If you wish to lodge a complaint about iRegistrations then I recommend you
contact the ACCC (http://www.accc.gov.au/) via this form:

http://accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/54217/fromItemId/3634#h2_18

If you wish to lodge a complaint about Enom then I recommend you contact
ICANN (http://www.icann.org/) via this form:

Subject: [Oz-ISP] Looking for details in Iregistrations.com

Hi List

I am looking for contact numbers and address details for Peter Jacobs from
I-registrations in perth.

Beware:
They have locked domain names so they can be transferred, and even gone to
the stage of changing the registrant details with enom.com

Is there any legal action that can be taken?

Cheers
Samantha
