A domain-name reseller trading on the implosion of a competitor to use scare tactics is causing confusion and grief for Australia’s webmasters and domain-name holders.

Internet Registry Pty Ltd, trading as Net Register, has mailed an estimated 60,000 domain-name holders trying to snag their business by telling them of the collapse of Internet Name Protection (INP), which traded as Internet Name Group. INP, which has been taken to the Federal Court by the ACCC for using misleading domain-name marketing tactics, was placed into administration on August 16.

Now, Net Register’s actions have earned the ire of competitors, the ACCC, INP’s administrator, domain-name holders and the domain-name governor, auDA.
